What should I do if I experience dryness or irritation after using my prescription treatment?
When using a prescription-strength ingredient for the first time, it’s not uncommon to experience mild dryness, flakiness or irritation. This is nothing to worry about and should settle down once your skin gets used to the active ingredients.
To help manage mild side effects, you can apply your moisturiser a few minutes after your treatment to ensure your skin gets the hydration it needs. If this doesn’t help, you can also apply a moisturiser before your prescription treatment to act as a buffer.
In the meantime, we also recommend stripping back the rest of your skincare routine to just the basics. A gentle cleanser and moisturiser without any strong active ingredients will help keep your skin calm as it adapts to your new personalised product. Once your skin has adapted to the ingredients in your prescription treatment, you can gradually start reintroducing your other favourite active ingredients back into your routine.
We want to ensure you can tolerate your treatment well so that you can get the best out of all of the ingredients. If you find your skin is not adjusting to your treatment despite trying the advice above or if you’re experiencing severe side effects, please get in touch with our Dermatology Team at hello@renewandme.com and they will be happy to advise you.
