Is it safe to use other skincare actives and acids while using my prescription treatment?
Renew + Me is designed to meet your every midlife skin need, but we also understand you may have skincare products that you love to use and are favourites in your routine. We want to ensure you see the results you want while your skin barrier stays strong and protected.
In order to minimise risk of irritation when using products that contain tretinoin, our expert Dermatology Team advise the following when it comes to using other actives:
VITAMIN C
Ideal for use in the daytime, while your personalised Serum-in-a-Cream or Nightly-Active-Treatment is part of your evening skincare routine. Vitamin C may cause an initial tingling sensation. We recommend waiting until you have an established routine with no irritation before introducing Vitamin C.
HYALURONIC ACID
If you feel your skin is in need of extra hydration, you can safely use hyaluronic acid in your routine.
RETINOIDS
Tretinoin is a retinoid, so you should avoid using other vitamin A-related products on your skin. Check the ingredients of any off-the-shelf night creams as these may contain retinol. You may use an eye cream that contains retinol (such as our Eye-Serum-in-a-Cream) as long as you avoid any overlap with areas where you have applied the Serum-in-a-Cream or Nightly-Active-Treatment.
AHAS & BHAS
In the beginning, we advise you not to use AHAs and BHAs and to allow the potent and proven ingredients in your personalised Serum-in-a-Cream or Nightly-Active-Treatment to work and ensure there are no adverse reactions.
To reintroduce it back into your routine:
– Start slowly and add back gradually — initially once a week, building up to twice a week.
– If at any point you feel any dryness or irritation, reduce the amount/frequency and let your skin settle again before resuming.
