How do I incorporate my prescription treatment into my current skincare routine?

We understand that you may have skincare products that you already love using and are a staple in your routine. However, when using personalised skincare that contains proven prescription* ingredients, we want to minimise any risk of irritation – especially in the beginning.

As your skin adjusts to your new prescription product, it may be more prone to dryness and sensitivity. To reduce the chances of a reaction, our expert Dermatology Team recommends the following:

  • Simplify your routine and cut out any unnecessary actives. A gentle skincare routine will help protect your skin barrier as your skin adapts to your prescription formulation.
  • Avoid using retinoids (or Vitamin A ingredients in any form) if your prescription contains tretinoin.
  • Avoid exfoliant cleansers that contain AHAs or BHAs when you first start using your prescription formulation. Once tolerated, these can be gradually added back into your routine if desired.
  • Avoid physical exfoliants, such as brushes, scrubs, or mechanical cleansers containing microglobules, as these can damage your skin.
  • Finally, always listen to your skin and pay attention to how it’s responding. Once your skin has become accustomed to the prescription ingredients, you can slowly reintroduce products back into your skincare routine, like Vitamin C serums, hydrating hyaluronic acid serums, or AHA/BHA exfoliants.
